Day 18ish

Word Count: 21,304.

I know I should keep up the momentum, but I’m in the middle of a part so intense it’s making me feel a little sick. So I’m taking a break long enough to post here.

MC kind of just murdered someone. In a rather gentle way.

I didn’t know that was going to happen.

Okay. Back to work.

Day 15ish

Word count: 18,281

Inching along, folks. I’m inching along.

I’m somewhat disappointed with my word count, so now the plan is to plow through the plot. Up until now, I’ve been getting to a plot point and then rambling about whatever, to see what I could find there, before moving on. But that’s getting difficult. I’m not good at rambling (shut up, regular readers).

So I’m going to focus on the plot, getting from one plot point to the next until we reach the conclusion.

Okay? Okay. Go!

Day 8ish

Word Count: 10,035

I can’t remember if I’ve said this yet, but the days of NaNo are off for me. Since I work/write at night, I’ll start writing on a particular day but by the time the session is over, it’s the next day. So this feels like Day 8, but it’s actually technically Day 9. Anyway.

I’ve been awake about 23 hours now, and my shift isn’t over for another 3 hours. So I’m writing writing writing. Normally, I get a little over 1k a night. On a good night, 1.7k or so. With about two more hours of writing time tonight, I’ve got 2.2k. And I’m still going. I’m suppoooosed to be at 15k by midnight. As you can see from my WC up there, I’ve got a long ways to go if I want to reach it. We’ll see. I’m really enjoying it.

As always, how is your novel coming?

Day 3ish

I’m at 4.7k now. Still not where I want to be, but getting there.

A few hours ago, I got some really bad news and it left me angry and shaky. Meanwhile, in my novel, my characters were about to squeal and gossip and swoon. So, I jumped ahead to the damn kidnapping. And I made it brutal. Yeah, smack him in the head with a baseball bat. Anyway, it helped calm me down and I’ll go back to the swooning part when I’m in more of that kind of mood. I still want about 5k between the swooning and the kidnapping, but I just wasn’t going to be able to write anything happy at that point.

Also, I have the ending figured out. I always knew it would have a tragic ending, so I guess this is more like an epilogue…? a teaser-trailer? Something.

Days 1-2

It’s here! NaNoWriMo is finally here!

I tried to post this earlier, but the site simply won’t work for me. Is anyone else having this problem? I’m using the app now.

Annnyway, NaNo has finally arrived. I was busy most of Nov. 1, wasn’t able to completely catch up on Nov. 2, but the wonderful part of falling behind at the very beginning is that it’s easy (relatively) to catch up. If I can hit about 2k a day, I’ll be there and beyond in no time.

I’m loving my characters so far, and my favorite hasn’t even shown up yet. Yay!

I’m trying to stretch things out. Last year, there was not much description, lots and lots of dialogue, and everything happened so quickly. This year, I’m slowing that down and describing things. I’m more in MC’s head. There are breaks in the dialogue. There are lengthy paragraphs.

I’m excited, folks. How is your novel coming along?
